I have Cakewalk and I like it. It is real easy to get to know the interface. I have the QS6.1 and it works well with cakewalk. Cakewalk comes with instrument definition files for Alesis instruments as well as others. Those files make it possible for you to change patches on your QS6.1

I am still skeptical about ALL plug ins (dx, vst, etc.) so I use an outboard effects unit or the effects on the Alesis. Whenever I seem to add anything to my computer, my sytem goes down the drain. Other people seem to have great success with their systems.

My suggestions is to do a search and see what others have to say.

Good Luck!

I read an interesting thread about how difficult it is to change platforms (cake to cubase not mac to pc) because the software is pretty comlex if you really get to know it and set it up for yourself. That being said, now is a good time to make a considered choice. I would down load the demos of cake, cubase and n-tracks and see which one you like. Also, there are lots of simple midi sequencers out there which are free or shareware.... might get you started and give you some insight into your music making process. Take care and have fun!
