I have the Soundblaster Audigy 4 and it seems to be working fine but I would like to start working with Midi and it does not have the interface. I could just buy a USB interface but I am thinking maybe I should just change the soundcard to something like the Audiophile 2496.

I would like to hear your thoughts on this. You see my equipment below so you know what I am using.

Thanks in advance for your help.

I have used a Midisport USB 2x2 midi interface now on 3 DAWs with zero problems.

You can still use Soundfonts using a VST soundfont player like the free "SFZ" from www.rgcaudio.com

(Just me, but I like to keep my midi separate from my audio so that if I change one I don't have any question about mucking the other one up....)

If your Sound Card has a Joystick Port you can get a Joystick to Midi adapter which will turn the Joystick port into a Midi Port....

Just a Thought....

Cheers

My soundcard does not have a joystick port but I can just use the Midi ports on the Firepod. Since I am new to the midi thing, I have a couple keyboards for Midi but my question is... do i need a sound module of some sort or can I just control the VSTi with the keyboard? Sorry if these are stupid questions, I am just really new to Midi.

I would consider getting the Audiophile 2496. its a great card really. it has everything u need, except multiple inputs/outputs. but if u have a mixer, mic, keyboard and powered monitors, u should be able to use the 2496 with ease.
