I'm recording rap, and am looking for a nice wholesome clear vocal sound. I'm getting a booth built and will be running an Audio Technica AT3035 mic into a Focusrite Platinum Penta Compressor/Limiter Microphone Preamp. Is anybody familiar with these products, or know if they will they give me a nice quality sound

Penta is good, but the Focusrite Trakmaster is identical in sound quality and cheaper. The AT3035 mic isn't too shabby either.

Also consider for mics:

Studio projects B1
Rode NT-1A

Also consider:

Very nice Preamp and Very nice compressor both come highly recommended.

Depends on your voice and the sound you like.

to be perfectly frank TP. i think your spending way too much money.
tell me your career recording aims and i'll make some suggestions.
own a big studio one day ? do a demo to send out to record labels ?
do songs just for the internet ? form your own record label ?

Well manning, i've been doing music since 3rd grade and instead of waiting around to get signed I'm starting my own business. I stongly belive that the musical talent i have and the people i keep around me i can really make a impact. I always wanted my own studio and learn how to record, so i could be the total package, and know that i got my job that's what i'm doing.

so pusha. you say you want your own studio , am i correct ?
do you anticipate having this studio for personal use only ? or build to be a paying facility ?
just be aware that the industry in many ways due to technological change is melting down in many areas. even a lot of commercial studios with significant large pro equipment investments have trouble maintaining rate structures and revenue streams.
as you seem serious about this, if you post a upper budget in dollars i think it would help people on here to help you with appropriate equipment recommendations. as a guide 5k used prudently will buy a very good sounding songwriters studio these days.

The studio is going to be used to record me my family and my group, but we want quality stuff because we have our own indi label and would like to put out stuff that people would want to buy.
