Just another guy, really.
A guitar/mandolin playing friend of mine GROUND SCORED a Tascam FW-1884- one of his neighbors has LEFT IT OUT FOR THE TRASH. Apparently, my buddy has scored a decent snare drum and a guitar case the same way, from the same guy. SOMETHING'S gotta be up, but I don't suspect my buddy of any hanky-panky.
Anyway, it is about 1000 times more bang than he needs, or probably even can comprehend. Not that he's stupid or a Luddite, he's just not into recording at that level. Hell, I am not at that level- but I don't need to be- I have a son who is professional recording/live sound engineer, and runs his own studio. I will ask my son about his interest in it tommorow (it's too late to call him right now), but anyone here, feel free to tell me what you think.
I own a Tascam DP-01- only thing I wish it did was record more than 2 channels at a time- four, maybe eight would be nice. Otherwise, it works fine for me. My son's studio has HD24's as his recording media. From what I read, the FW-1884 is compatable with the HD24, and is shipped with Cubase LE- Although my bud did not get the software, I am hoping we can get a replacement CD-Rom and such. David's studio currently is not Cubase equipped (don't ask why, I have no idea why.)
If my buddy was willing to give it to me, taking it would be a no-brainer, but we have not talked price. He knows they sell, new for approaching a grand, so I suspect I'm not getting it for a saw-buck
But what IS a good price to offer him? I do suspect he will figure it's all gravy, and won't want full used value for it. He plays almost exclusively acoustic, and I have no guitars that would suit him (I play lefty, he does not) and he would probably not be interested in the Peavey Bravo112 tube amp I have, so trading is probably not in the cards (altho he DOES want a small mixer so he can control the relative mix of his acoustic instruments' pickup going to the board- perhaps I can buy him what he needs for that, in exchange for the FW-1884? Just thinking aloud, here...)
