I noticed in another thread that Mr. Gerst has one. Perhaps you could help me out on this on? Has anyone else tried these? For $70.00 it looks like it might be worth adding to my very small collection?

I tried to do a search and only came up with the shockmount thread.

Thanks to any one who can shed some light.

PS Also looking for badge sets for tlm-103's:D

I have been wondering about this too. I thougt Mr. Gerst said he was getting one for a review, but since then I have not seen a thing about it. I am curious about this mic, cause I am so god-awful poor....

Ya I'm not so concerned that it be the greatest mic in the world. I would just like another flavor besides my AT 3035. I could use somthing with just a bit more sparkle too.

I am hoping that this is introductory pricing and if I get in on it now it will be worth more than I paid in a year, even more so I want it to sound like it's worth more than I paid:D

Perhaps I will have to be one of the the gini pigs

I'd say go for it. I like my V67s and have heard good stuff about their other mics. Plus its cheaper than an SM57. I already have enough 57s for the time being so I started spending my extra mic money on the Marshalls.

Thanks CJ but, as I hav eheard nothing very good about the 2001, I am a little worried I might be buying into a repackaged peice if crap.

I went and looked at the specs and It looks about like my at3035 with the roll off on and a bit of a broader high end with a spike at about 250hz. I like the idea if the broader high end, and the spike seems minimal but, I have a hard time trusing the charts.

(I know there is no roll off on this mic. that is not what i mean)

Someone has to have used this thing?'

Well It's on the way. I decided to take the plunge.
What have I got to loose. I figure a med diaphram mic could come in handy. I'm going to do some testing and if it sounds ok I may grab another and try them for drum overheads.

I have been looking at this one to. I was wondering how it would do with acoustic/classical guitar...maybe vocals?
Anybody know?

Thanks

Hopefully I will get mine by the weekend and I will try a comparison with my at-3035 and my at-813 on a few different sources.
Wish I had something better to compare it with, but at least it will be a somewhat fair comparison.

Well, the AT 4033 is a medium diaphragm mic and its certainly no slouch. I don't care how large the capsule is if it sounds good. Can't wait to hear your review!

Don't get me wrong I like my 3035, it's a 26mm diaphram. Whats the size on the 4033?

I just wish I had another step up (in quality) to compare with.

I'd like to hear about the 990, too. MXL said they didn't want it reviewed because Musician's Friend is the only company that carries it, and they didn't want other dealers calling MXL trying to get the 990.

I do have the $79 Studio Projects B1 and it's a surprisingly cool mic. Very well built and actually more versatile, IMO, than the C1.

That means we either have to rely on users opinions, or shell out the money for it. I hope MF has a good return policy.

And I noticed that MF does not currently have any available until the Nov. 22. This mic may remain a mystery for a little while longer unless Mr. Gerst has tried it and is willing to give his opinion on it.

Maybe it's like when MF say's they are the only ones that sell Tannoy Porto-j speakers (I think by adding the word "plus" to the end) when you can get them at mac midi music also.

Hmmmm??

Right off of MF's website. Says the availibility is 11-22-02. Maybe they are backordered. You probably got one of the last ones. I will be curious to hear what you think of it. Might be a while before I can pick one up. Sad, huh?

Cheers,

Bummer:( Well I must have bagged one of the last. It's better that I'm the lab rat than you anyway isn't it?? Don't worry I'll give you my honest opinion. If it doesn't work for me maybe you could pick it up for $50.00:D. I'm only about 45 minutes away.

I ordered a 990 too

last night. they gave me the 3 week delivery on it. I also got the last $69 pro25 that they had, so that deal is done as he said no more were on order. At least I got one of them. I almost snoozed past that one.

Already got mine

I got mine 2 days ago from MF with the free CAD pop filter (better than a pop filter I paid 25 bucks for).

I liked it on my vocals, I compared to my Studio Projects C1 and there are some interesting differences.

The C1 has much more clarity and bite, but the levels of the MXL are much hotter than the C1. I wondered if there might be something wrong with my C1. The gain has to be set about 50 percent hotter to get the same signal as the MXL. After adjustments, the C1 was better, but I wouldn't really say it was over 2X better.

I recorded an acoustic guitar with the C1 as the min mic and the MXL as the 2nd ambience/room mic (farther away). I was floored. Beautiful combination.

I highly recommend the mic at the price, I'm glad I got it before they ran out of stock. Plus, as has been said before, when you consider the cost of the pop filter, plastic hard case and shockmount, the mic is basically free. Can't beat that, no siree.

PS I am liking this forum better than HC.

it is pretty and has a very good shock mount, but it is only cardiod pattern, no pads.
