I was trying out these MSH mics in a spaced pair, stereo config, and ended up coming up with this short tune.

My guitar is buzzing in some places more than I'd like, and the strings are long past dead but I still think it sounds okay despite that.

Anyway, let me know what you think. :)

What kind of guitar are you playing? It's a nice balance between wood and strings. The dead strings are apparent but give a dark guitar flavor without any boominess. Alone, as recorded here, it works well, but I think you would have problems giving it its own space when mixed with other instruments.

I'm no expert, it's just my opinion.
Cheers!!

Thanks, Chili. :)

I don't plan on adding any other instruments to this, but I will probably work more on the tune and try to develop it into a real song.

I posted this more as a clip of the MSH mics in a stereo setup.

After listening to it again I kinda regret posting it. It's not sounding so good after taking a break from listening to it. :o :D (Which seems to be the case for a lot of my stuff).

Anyway, thanks for checking it out.

Hey Danny it sounds nice. The only thing I noticed you might want to fix is the panning is off too much to the left.

Hey dannydotguitar, :) Great song. Also the heart piece was rocking. Forgot to mention it then.

Even Nancy plays it a little imprefect in some live performances.Don't worry about it. :)

But this one is pretty good. Real nice mood settings. Don't hear any bad buzzes. But probalby 'coz the music itself it really worth listening. :)

Hey Danny, don't regret posting it, I'm really glad that you did. I didn't think you were looking for comments on teh song or playing, just in regard to the MSH's. I am very interested in those mics especially after Gorty's post the other day with the mandolin.

I've got an ovation and cannot get a good acoustic sound out of it. So, I'm real curious what other people are doing.

I think what you've got here will work great and I look forward to hearing the song when you're done.

Cheers,

I enjoyed the crap out of that. That guitar rings beautifully. What kind of a space did you record it in? I'm asking because I've always used very close mic recordings for my acoustics to kill the effect of my (untreated) rooms, but I recently got wood flooring put in my house, and I really like the way it sounds in some places...looking forward to experimenting. Nice work man.

You had a kid crying in the background, lol. :D

I'm only one opinion, so don't get pissed at me here, but I've played a lot of guitars, and I've never in my life played an Ovation that made me go "wow" when I sat down in a room with it. I played a 6 string and a 12 string Ovation live for about 4 years, and they worked great for that, but as far as recording them, forget about it, lol. I like recording dreadnoughts that are made out of crazy material like wood. :D

Nah, no offense taken. I bought the ovation 25 yrs ago and only bought because of name recognition, marketing hype, etc. Nowadays, i sit in GC strumming Martins and Taylors and only wishing.... :(

Sorry for interrupting your thread, danny.

Cheers.

Heh, thought that was my kid - usually is.

I did too, lol. I had headphones on, so I thought I was ignoring my 10 year old beating up my 7 year old. But by the 3rd time through, I decided I needed to "GET UP AND TAKE CARE OF IT." They were both playing X-Box quietly, lol.

Danny, it sounds like my head is about an inch from the front of the guitar. This is a super clean, super close sounding recording. I agree with the slight-left balance - a few tweaks could probably correct that. These MSH mics are pretty nice! :D BTW - nice playing as always....;)

Sounds good Danny. Were you moving around while playing it? It sounds like it slowly wavers from slightly left to center. nice playing.

Nice playing Danny. Seems like those MSH mics are pretty good for acoustic after listening to some of the recordings with them.

Do expand on the piece. It has some really nice potential.

Thanks for the comments. :)

Yeah that was my little sister in the background. :D I have a loud family. ;)

I miked pretty close to the guitar, one mic pointed at about the 7th fret, probably 8" away, and another about 1ft or a little more away from the saddle, but pointed at the soundhole.

I didn't use any effects on this, but as Greg noticed, did a few pan envelopes from left to right, but only at the very beginning.

Sorry danny I get a "problem loading page" message each time I try to listen.

I think it turned out nice....very good sounding, nice playing.

Nice tone, good playing. It is a little to the left.

I'm going to have to look into some of those mics. I've been hearing a lot of good things and they are priced quite nicely.

Danny

I liked the playing for sure. I too am going to have to check out those mics.
