Can anyone recommend a good shockmount for the 414 ULS mics? The one made by AKG is too expensive for me right now...are there any other options at a lower price? Thanks

ooh me too -- same mic, same problem.

I've been using one made for small diaphragm condensers (like the SM81), but both the shaft of the C414 and the end of the XLR connector go into the clamp of the shockmount, because the shaft is too short. Works, but not elegant, and will probably rattle if pushed a little.

Thanks for the reply! Do you know if the second mount would be able to hold the 414 upside down?

I have one of the mic mounts listed second in kojdogg's post. Personally, I would not use it with soething like a 414. It is held purely by elastics with no sort of mechanical mount system at all. It is a pain getting mics in ad out of, and if you are not really careful, you will find yourself with broken switches on your 414. I have not used the RED wonder mount yet, but can get you a price if you are interested.

Thanks for the info on the elastic mount. Sounds nasty!

What do you mean by get me a price for the RED? It does look interesting.

Thanks

That was a RED shockmount the first link in kojdogg's post, right? $81?

thanks :o - that's not rendering right in my browser for some reason - the prices aren't going in the right place.

I got these http://www.fullcompass.com/product/331501.html. Not cheap but they are metal and look to be well-built. I checked everywhere for the Red schockmount mentioned earlier and couldn't find any in stock anywhere. I was told they have been discontinued. I got a very good deal for a pair of the Violet PSM shockmount from Full compass (via eBay). One was an open box discount.

Note: Although the description says these were designed to be an alternative for the C414 mic the thumbscrews don't tighten quite enough to hold the mic inverted. Easy resolution I found was to drop a small ball bearing in the thumbscrew hole and then replace the thumbscrew. It works perfectly now.

I like them much better than the originals

Don.
