This Is God Damn So Annoying, Oh I Cant Even Bear To Write, Im Sooo Maddd.. I Cant Believe How Annoying It Is, Ok Maybe Yous Can Help..

Ok In Cool Edit, I Constantly Have To Upgrade Sound Effects To A Movie.. Meaning I Use Another Application At The Same Time As I Got Cool Edit Open, Ok??..

So I Go To Cool Edit To Update A Sound That Doesnt Sound Right In The Movie And Guess What?.. When I Go To Save It Says..

"the File Is Probably In Use By Another Application"

W T F??? Who Are You To Care And Take Over The Maintenance Of My Files!!!.. Just Save The God Damn File And Update It #!@!@##!@#!@

Sooooo Annoying This Is.. Cool Edit Is Pissing Alot Of Proffesional Movie Makers Out There Who Rely On Using Many Software At The Same Time.. Cool Edit Should Stop Trying To Be A Hero And Let People Run Their Own Computer, Just God Damn Edit The Sound And Shutup!!

Is There A Patch Or Something.. Im Thinking Of Changing Software That Doesnt Do This Bullcrap.

Sorry I Am Mad, I Just Had To Shut And Close My Video Editor Pinnacle Studio About 30 Times (not To Mention The Loading Times For My Massive Project)!!

I Say Again, Just Save The God Damn File And Let Me Run My Own Computer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

could you describe please in more detail what your trying to do.
bring in a movie into the pc THEN add sound effects ?
need the procedure.
peace.

Ok..

I got pinnacle studio 7 open where I edit movies.. I have many sound effects that I put into the movie ,,,

I also have COOL EDIT open, so I got two programs running on my computer..

Now when I have a problem with a sound in the video im editing in studio, I go to cool edit, go file open and open the sound..

Then I edit the sound..

Now when I go SAVE in Cool edit..it says "File is probably in use by another application"

Offcourse the sound is open on the video stream in studio 7..

What would be so convenient is if it just SAVES the file and doesnt worry if its being used by STUDIo.., then that SOUND WILL BE UPDATED AUTOMATICALLY IN STUDIO as soon as I save the sound in cool edit (because it is the same file!)

But it says its being used.. which is silly.

So what I have to do is, close Studio .. then it saves in cool edit cos its not being used.. and open it.. takes about a minute cos my project is big..

oh i see your problem. i think the issue might be the way drivers and files work. i wont bore you with the tek details. most audio apps need the files and drivers to do their thing in summary. so your getting locked out.
you might try contacting cool edit support. maybe they have a workaround.
OR one option is there are many audio editors on the market.
hitsquad.com has a list. what you need is an editor that does not "lock out".
i dont know if this will work so please dont get angry with me.
but you might have to try another editor that doesnt lock you out. ie is willing to share the file. however if you like cool edits effects this might not be satisfactory to you. on the other hand if all your doing is straight
audio editing like cut and paste, silencing etc maybe another editor will work in conjunction with the video editor. maybe sound forge editor might work.
but youll have to test it out. maybe a multitrack editor will work and not lock out. i think frankly youll have problems. because ideally it seems you want the changes to be done in the audio editor and reflected immediately in the video side of the house am i correct ? if so - unfortunately most programs dont work this way because what pinnacle is probably creating is its own internal format which cool edit cannot access. most programs of this nature create what are called tmp files while ac user works on changes.
so probably pinnacle creates its own tmp file (temporary file) while your working in pinnacle and cool edit creates its own as well while working with cool edit. so the two dont talk to each other.
i'm not sure that you will find a good solution where changes in cool edit are immediately reflected in pinnacl due to how i described tmp files work.
each package has its own work area within the computer on disc.
and the two dont talk to each other.
sorry i cant be much more help.

"the File Is Probably In Use By Another Application"
That's the OS, not Cool Edit.

you will probably have to do a save as and name the file something else to get around this issue.

Just what would happen on any computer if any other app could change the data an app thought it had?
In this case, not a lot, provided the edit didn't change the duration of the audio file, but the principle of something else not altering a file already in use is a computing fact - not CoolEdits fault.
It's allowable if the source application can knowingly launch the file in the second app. Sonars Tools Menu is an example of this, allowing an audio editor to be launched (Cool Edit or anything else) to edit a selected audio clip "in situ" as it were.
If your Video Editor has no such facilty, then there's no help for it.
You could upgrade to Adobe Audition which has a video view to edit the soundtrack to.

Is this the same problem? - Cool Edit and Fruity Loops won't work simultaneously. It's not a matter of working on the same file, cuz they use different file types. It's a soundcard thing, right?

I really wish I could use both of them at the same time.

Thanks for your help people.. I did use Soundforge but I simply like cool edit much more, its way more versatile and ...god damn magniffecent! :)

The thing is, in sound forge it actually works with studio 7, when I update something it realises tts being used but just warns you but lets you do anything.. but I just like Cool edit better, plus its got that look for fruityloops users (I am a heavy user of fruityloops and have made many tracks with it that are currently being used in a dragonclaw game)... I am just going to use the workaround someone above suggested and rename the file which does work, but I have to re- place the file in studio 7.. but better then shutting / restarting studio which is a nightmare.

I was a very avid user of sound forge till a freind showed me Cool edit which blew me away!

Anyway thanks. Fruityloops + Cool edit + Pinnacle = GOOD PROJECT!

Why not save the file as two files in two seperate folders--one for CEP and the other for the other program? When need be, update the movie folder with the edited one from CEP at the end of the night. Not perfect, but a work around.

Sorry, an error in what I said earlier. As a Sonar tool, the program does not modify the source but makes a "tool copy". This has to be saved before closing the "tool" and Sonar then replaces the original with the new copy.
Thinking about it, this is the way it has to work. Not only to avoid any file access violations, but to allow the main programs edit menu to "undo" the external processing.

Are there any video programs that support external editors in this way?
I think Adobe Premier may now. I've read there is supposed to be integration with Audition.
