I'm trying to mess about a bit with electronic music. Do you think Ableton Live or Reason is the best way to go? Or another program I may not yet know about

Try out a Yamaha AW1600. It's hardware and it does great stuff to "do it all" and burn your CD. The burner is much faster than my older 4416, much faster.

I guess the pros/cons work out for many folks. At least you might listen to one at a vendor's place or from a friend.

Music will keep you happy.
