I've been looking at the prices of SheetBlok™ Professional Sound Barrier, WOW, is this stuff lined with gold?

Any way my question is has any used or thought of using pond lining? Its also 1/8 inch thick and comes in 15' wide by, well, very long. The only concern I could think of was, I don't think it has a fire retardant added, and we all know how rubber burns.

Any thoughts???

i was wondering about 90 pond roll roofing, also about 1/8 thick.

Sheetblok is very heavy and it I believe it is the weight that helps in the blocking of sound. Pond liner, if it's similar to shower pan liner is lightweight flexable PVC which you could seal your room with but I don't think it is dense enough to make much difference when it comes to blocking sound.

I did see an artical on an site from UK about using roll roofing. They reccommended hanging it like wall paper. I worked in a Building materials store when I was in highschool and the stuff is certainly heavy to move around. I think the 90 pound rating is per square which is 100 sq ft so it's less than a pound per squarefoot. This combined with shower pan liner could be a more economical sheerblok. All those little granular pebbles would sure be a mess though.

The pond liner I'm talking about is very heavy, its the rubber that goes under the PVC form your talking about. It looks and feels like shetblok, but costs about $12.50 a sq. foot U.S.. I purchased about 350 sq. feet and its weight is about 100 pounds

Thanks for answering back.

any one else have any feed back.

I think I'm going to try the roof roll on my cynder block though.

LOL, did I say $12.50 a sq. foot. Its actually $12.50 for 1' by 15'. I purchased a 15' by 22' roll for about $295.00. A roll of sheetblok of the same size (or close to), would have cost me from $700 to $900 dollars.

Now if I could just find the time to finish this project.

not a form...

I was not talking about a rigid PVC form. That is something completely different. I am talking about a flexable sheet material used to make shower pans, saunas, ponds and the like. I worked with it extensively for several years. I recall making seams with a liquid similar to what is used to fuse pvc pipes. It is heavy but I do not recall it being as heavy as 40 sq ft of Auralex.

It would make a great airtight room. You could use it for a pool.

BBC and roofing felt

Yes, it's true about roofing felt. Apparently the BBC here in London used to use it for building bass traps. It's the heavy, tar-like stuff that you use to roof your shed with!
