we don't need rest!!
now...go away...this is narration, blah, blah, blah...but my 62 yr old vocalist did this on her first take (working on her emotion now), and decided to "test the compressor." If you can't stand it,(but it IS an interesting story[telling]) there's a lead gtr. starting at 2:45....but that's not really the best part, imo.

the song is: JUDAS (currently 3rd song down)

wow, she's 62? would not want to piss her off in a dark alley.

sounds cool though i must say. but sort of an abrupt ending. hey, when is that jesuz dude coming back? i really would like to meet him and maybe chill out with some wine and some pot or something.

mix,

Very cool again! This is going to be quite a good concept album, whether your into the lyrics or not.---EDIT--- (i think they're great) One thing, I had it turned up loud when it started, and I had to lower it when the voice started. It's a bit loud. I cant believe she's 62! Incredible! I would never have guessed it. Throw a few more leads in there too.

----edit----

I sound like a broken record BUT good stuff as always mix!

cool.

later.

The reverb, albeit quite wet, gives you that sense of introspection ... what would a person in her shoes feel like after a betrayal of that grandeur? ... the verb was a bit much for my taste but it did a fantastic job.

The hard panned delay for the lyrics " .. he is trully the messiah ." seemed a bit old fashion .. i would have went with a stereo delay and instead of delaying twice i would have went for a larger count without such hard panning and would have faded off the effect as well. .. but that's just me .. it really doesn't matter.

Love the pitch bend for the chord change . that made me think of certain pink floyd tunes... it get's a bit long after a while .. but the tune is rather short.

The drums have a strange panning and don't have a great fullness... but really do fall into the role of ambiance that you where looking for i think .. and really do fulfill their mandate in this role.

The vocals and the song's message are certainly the showpeice to this tune .. but are a little loud (the vocals are loud, the message if fine).

All in all, this is a really good piece.

Yowsa! :D

That kicks buttucks! Raised the hair on my arms from the sheer sincerity of it.

Thanks for sharing this. Your work and hers continues to amaze me. Makes the heart feel warm.

Take care,
Chris

Charva...I don't think she has ever been in a dark alley, and she is pretty mellow anywazzz...
the abrupt ending parallels death...eh??
unsure of the return date, and I'd think JC might wanna chill out with you too...you bring the pot

bsabbath...thanks again,....seems I can always count on you for a listen and a comment....working on the leads...and yeah..the vocal IS too loud, now that you mention it.

tvaillan...your comments are especially well received, and good ones too. the pitch bend kinda got me in the "Moody Blues" kinda feel...and I liked that...so went with it.

Chris...your comments gave me a big smile...thanks alot man.

mixmkr, I'm not ignoring you my friend, I have to wait to
download tunes to listen to at the day job where I have a T-1 line. I'll be giving it a listen tomorrow.

No mixmkr,

Thank YOU for giving me cool stuff to listen to and entertaining posts to read.

hey man, you listened to my track, so i wanted to return the favor. i really like this. especially when the guitar kicks in..the womans voice was intense...it didn't sound too loud to me...the stab at the end makes the piece tight...love that "guit"

the beat is kinda lame in a working way. i give it an 8 for creativity.

Good work!

I like the mix and the drive of the piece, but here's a few suggestions. I kept waiting for the vocal to sing. You could insert a brief singing vocal in the middle by adding a bridge, maybe a repition of the lyrics "He is truly the Messiah" - - the bridge should also offer some different chords as the two chord thing starts to get a bit old before the guitar solo saves it.

I like it mixmaker.. really neat concept... the music almost reminds me of Depeche Mode...

Great stuff....

(I'd write more, but I can't think of anything that bugs me about this song...)

when you spell mixmkr correctly, I'll paint my guitars blue!!! :D

hey...thx for the listen/comments

(damn I wish your last name was Lang........)
good suggestions...but I gotta stick to this one with no singing. I've done some other narrative stuff, so the context of story telling w/music is not really original to me (but I suppose boring to the listeners!). The bg music probably does get a little old, as I can get stuck on a groove that I like, and figure the naration will take charge enough....but yet I tell others, like a hyprocrite, to keep the music flowing...changes,..etc....so I understand.

sam17...
thanks for the 8 ......8.2?? eh?? eh???;)

I liked the idea of the piece and the storyline. I couldn't get past the "Nightrider" backing track though. I kept waiting for KIT (The talking car) to chime in. I could tell that the vocalist was getting charged. She really used her voice well. Kinda Like Kathy Bates in Misery.

ya know...I hate to rag about my own stuff....but this is one example of how lousy the MXL2001p can sound. I've gotten good results with it...but this is an instance, where I thought the vocal sound just absolutely reeked.... it sounds metallic-y sounding to me...like thru a metal tube, or something. The mic has been MOSTLY great for me, but sometimes, it is just poor sounding...like the humidity affected the mic or something.. very strange.

I know, I know...what you all are saying.... let it go...

But, like I said, on about three things I have recorded, this same effect happened, but never any other times. Since this was a first take, thingie...I had to let it slide. I didn't even get a chance to get decent levels, cause it was "lets get levels...then we'll record"...but she did the take WHILE getting levels, imo...so....

I find it interesting that I've *slide by* with no one mentioning the lousy vocal sound....phew!! oh no!! was I supposed to point this out!!

Vox were a bit shrill but not that bad. Overall a VERY good production but man this kind of subject matter is just disturbing to me. Good work my friend.

yes add a chorus or bridge and you have a great tune
Her voice is not that old BTW
hehehe

Trackrat...you crack me up... :D
I post about my dislike of the vocal sound [and reveal use of the dreaded MXL2001p...which is known to cause leprosy] after a couple of posts, and the very NEXT sentence in the forum is your post commenting about the shrill vocals....

But...I gotta give you full credit for addressing the concerns of this particular songwriter....!!

that just cracks me up....... and music that disturbs...is that kinda like the obtuse, Frank Zappa stuff? :D

thanks for the listen, and the complimentary remarks. And...I appreciate your 'intentions post' you posted earlier that you were gonna listen later...

istyle:
I guess another musical section needs to be in the works...
(see Trackrat....istyle liked the 2001!;)
thank you for the listen and your personal opinions...

Man, the vox is totally in-your-face. I love that.

The drums sound dated, but the balance is awesome and I love the space.

The guitars are madd.

THe only thing is: actually its quite funny. The coins spilling on the floor sounded like anything else except coins.

I totally respect the amount of production you put into this.

Funk on!

ha!! ...we screwed with that sound spending more time on it than you would think. Trying to emulate 30 pieces of silver, rather than current currency, like a bunch of nickles and dimes, we played around trying to re-create a sound of ancient coinage hitting the floor in an old rock-floored temple. Of course, a bunch of quarters and stuff sounded lame, and the final sound ended up being a bunch of spoons, dropped on my tile-faced kitchen table, and pitchbended down a couple steps.
My wife and the singer kept going...."how's this sound..?"...and had the entire kitchen torn apart looking for something to throw!! It was actually kinda funny....ya know...like stomping shoes on a 2x4 to sound like walking...
This is the kind of stuff in recording that makes it fun...and keeps me from just sitting on the couch watching TV all the time.

Cyan...thanks so much for your time and comments. The responses I've been getting have been really the perfect insight into the music, as we all know it's hard to separate yourself from your own music and listen to it subjectively. A really valuable place this is.

aiyo as promised.......when the music first kicked in I thought it was the theme to knight rider....I can't believe the woman is in her 60's............. It sounds like some BSDM dominatrix shit...............................But enough about the music...............The mixing was good..... You can tell the production work was time consuming.... everything from vocals to drums are very clear................all in all I found the piece entertaining........I usually don't listen to narrative compositions but this is better than what I have heard in the past.......
