I'm contemplating purchasing a set of Seymour Duncan Alnico II Pro pickups for my Gibson SG standard. Right now I'm finding the guitar is too bright and not in the kind of way that the tone knob could fix. So my question is, has anyone tried these pickups and what did you think of them?

I'm also considering SD 59's, and Pearly Gates (though from the sound clips I'm leaning towards the Alnico II pros)

Any input on the brightness, output, articulation, harmonics, so on, of these pickups is greatly appreciated.

My favorite combination is a Alnico II in the neck, and a Pearly Gates in the bridge. I would certainly prefer to have different pickups in the two possitions.

Check out seymourduncan.com and go to their message board. You will find tons of people who can tell you what certain pickups will sound like in your guitar. Post a message there saying what you have and the tone you are looking for (a few bands may help) what you have now, what you don't like about it. Very nice people and very knowledgable about SD pickups and tone.

Well I went on the Seymour Duncan forum, I was too lazy to join so I just read old threads as there were plenty of people with similar questions as me. Thanks for that idea cere8. I'm thinking I'll go with a custom custom in the bridge, and an alnico 2 pro in the neck.

Just wanted to add, that the seymour duncan forum actually has lots of information on other companies pickups as well, and I did just start a thread there, and theres 14 replies in less than day. Thanks again cere8

I have the Seymour Duncan SH '59's in a strat and am happy as a pig in shit with them.

Seymour Duncan has mp3s of its pickups posted. That's what I used to select the pickups I put in my LP Deluxe.
