Based on some comments from the guitar rigs and setup thread I decided to start a thread on the pickup. I haven't heard one, other than from the samples on the seymour duncan site, and it sounds like it would go well in my SG. I was wondering what everyone thought about them? and would like further discussion from those who expressed their opinions on this pickup in the other thread if they would be willing. I was under the impression that this pickup will have a lot more mids than the custom or the custom 5?

It's not as hot a pickup compared to the JB, but it will definitely drive the front end of an amp.If you like your tone warm and squishy this is it.

The Alnico-2 magnet in this pickup will give you a loose bottom.
if you play metal or anything that requires a tight bottom for chunking and palm muting rhythm stay clear of this pickup.
however if ure after the vintage hard rock tone, this will do.nice open chord rings.

the custom is great for downtuned guitars without getting muddy and the custom5 is even better.
buying pickups is basically pot luck...
ive owned/sold...custom,customcustom,custom5,invader,59's,distortion,jazz and jb and i always went back to the jb...
i love it and the jazz(neck) combo but its really up to personal preference.

hope any of that helps.

I hate them! Like my other post said it was just all wrong for my style of music.

I've had everything from emgs, 59's, bill lawerence, jb, super distortion etc. etc. etc. and the "custom custom" is honest to god the worst pickup I've ever owned.

I think I could fart on a snare drum and make it sound better than my custom custom.

If I was to recomend a bridge pickup for your sg, I'd recomend a chrome covered 59. It wouldn't hurt the apperance of the guitar, and I think they're very versatile. The 59 can do clean, blues, rock, punk, metal, you name it and the pickup can do it. If I had the money I'd put a 59 in every guitar I own (seriously).

And I agree that the jazz is a great option for the neck pickup.

I don't mind to step on anybody's toes, this is just my two cents. :D BUTT with that in mind, fart of a snare drum if you really want to hear what a custom custom sounds like.
