Hello all,

Im looking into buying a whole new computer system for myself. I current use a small and cheap USB Lexicon interface, with 2 inputs and 2 outputs. This is fine for me as I am never recording more than 1 input at a time. I spend all my money on samples and virtual instruments which I control with my MIDI interface.

If I am buying a new computer, should I buy a new soundcard as well, or simply use the Lexicon? Bear in mind all I need is stereo out. I will spend a lot on the CPU, RAM and harddrive so I can run many VST's.

If i need to upgrade in the future I can.

The Lexicon IS a soundcard.

It will replace your built-in soundcard - which only has about 50cents worth of chips so you want to IGNORE it anyway....

Like soooo many posts like this...

If it meets your expectations and you are satisfied with the results and your happy, then just keep on doing what you do. When you get to the point that your no longer happy with the results, then it's time for a change.

I appreciate, yes, its ok for my current setup, but if I want to build my system properly and suddently realise I really need a PCI card, and have bought a mobo without enough PCI slots - im a bit screwed.

And to the poster above - I know the lexicon is a soundcard, I was merely asking if I was creating a quality bottleneck in the system, or if through your experience you think an internal card would be of benefit to me.

For now I will stick with it then. Sounds like it should be ok.
