Hello i just recorded the first track onto the cd and the sound is kinda low... Do you lower all your monitor's externally amped with own volume to a confort zone meaning halfway. Or do you shut them off completely and use phones only and if the cans are the answer to what volume level do i set them to? i know dumb question but it will beat wasting cd's and this site alone has got me pertty far. No harm in asking...
THANK'S

I'm not sure I totally understand the question but as I see it there are two points to make...

1 - you shouldn't mix with headphones, so the level setting is kind of irrelevant.

2 - a reasonable mixing level (via monitors) is around 85dB -- this is where the ear's frequency response is the flattest, so our ear's tendency to give more "weight" to the midrange band is somewhat minimized.

I may have misunderstood your question, but I'm going to come at it this way. When you bounce down, set your levels on the VF160 so that the L/R stereo mix levels are hitting near the top range of the display, just below peaking. Then do the same thing again when you master. How you set each individual fader is a choice you need to make, but the overall level going into the stereo mix should be near (but not touch) peak levels.

If your monitors/headphones are initially set too high, and you pay attention more to their volume than your meters, you'll wind up with a low-level final mix.

In an extreme example... you could have your monitors cranked up all the way, with almost no levels on your VF160 -- resulting in a final mix you think is loud, but is almost non-existent on the CD.

THANK'S!!!

Thank's im sorry i couldn't explain my self right but it seem's you know what im after and thank's for the pointer's i will give them a try but don't get me wrong more are welcome.
