Hi,
I've been planning on setting up a small home studio for a while now and it seems the more I get into it the more questions there are and i'm just doing a very basic setup! Here are my options...
- I have new desktop pc (good spec etc...) but it is very noisy and I would prefer not to use this because it is in an awkward location! - although I really would like to use the m audio delta 44!
- I also have a laptop, also with pretty good spec, which would be good to use...but I don't want to sacrifice quality using a usb device (also they are more expensive than the delta 44.) What could I use in the PC card slots?
- Finally, I have an old pc that currently isn't being used. The spec isn't great (about 300 or so mhz intel mmx chip, 64mb RAM and a 6gb hard drive.) I would like to use this and am possibly thinking it might be worth upgrading it a little (memory is cheap, could purchase a new proccessor perhaps and a new hard drive even for less than $200.)
All I want to do is to record acoustic guitar (up to 3 tracks), vocals (up to 2 tracks) and possibly a couple of other tracks used for synths etc. To do this i'm using a soundcraft folio notepad mixer and a studio projects b1 microphone (will expand equipment later.) I can't decide what soundcard to get and what setup to use (out of the 3 listed...I would really prefer to use either 2 or 3.) I don't want to sacrifice sound quality using my laptop though and would really like to use the delta 44. I know the recording won't be amazing...but I could get it to a standard that i'm happy with. I've researched the topic alot already searching the forums and found that people say different things so I wanted to give my proposed setup so I can get a more personal response. Any help would me much appreciated.
Many thanks,
Simon
p.s. I don't want to spend more than $150 on the soundcard, which s a bit low but all I can afford.
