im looking to set up a complete home studio, that i could record other bands at. I dont even know where to start, is something like the Digi 001/2 good? Or is that juts crap? Im looking for soundcard/software suggestions and maybe a book that explains all of this? If I got a soundcard, then i get my mic-pres, do those somehow get plugged directly into the soundcard?

I really want to get started with digital recording, but I have no idea how and where - i could really use the help. What soundcard/computer/software and how to hook all of this up.

oh and if this could all stay in the under 4000 dollar range that wouldnt either...

Thanks alot.

My advice at this point: If you don't have a clue yet, forget about buying anything for the time being. Make sure you know what you're going to buy and how it is going to suit your needs before you pull your wallet.

How many tracks do you want to record simultaneously? That defines for a great deal what soundcard you'll end up with and how many mic preamps you're going to need. Not to mention which and how many microphones.

Hang around this board. You'll learn a lot.
