I am recording vocals into Sonar using my Aardvark Q10. I just bought a Behringer 2600 compressor. I know I must go from the mic into the compressor and then into the Aardvark but I don't know specifically how to do it. Do I have to use an insert from the Aardvark or can I just go from the compressor to the input in front??

Also, what are some typical compressor settings for a strong, loud male vocalist?

Your signal chain would typically be like this:

Mic, Mic pre/mixer. compressor, recording device.
If you have a mixer, you would patch the compressor in an insert point.

Settings? well that is set to tast. Do a search for compressor settings. There is not only one setting.

Best of luck.

I always use the inserts on the back for vox. (I have the Q10 and a behringer 2200 comp).

for instance...

Vox in to CH1
Insert 1 send to comp in
Insert 1 recieve to comp out.

Settings on the comp? A matter of preference, I guess, but I find that I like to try not to use the comp too much. I mean like I avoid going over say 2 or 3 to 1 ratios for my vox. But that may just be me. (I did read it here first, tho: http://www.homerecording.com/bbs/showthread.php?s=&threadid=86741&highlight=Digital+summing+busses

Hope this helps
