AAarrghh.....
I've had Cakewalk 9.0 for about one week now, bundled with the Aardvark Direct Pro. All way too cool, and so much now to learn.

Any tips on pickin' the dad blasted right source and ports though?
I can hear the drum tracks when I pick them in the console and import to the tracks window...but, when I go to record its simply not happenin. I've messed with picking the right port/source to record my guitar, and its worked fine, but so far as getting the midi file to record I'm just drawing a stupid blank.

I have a PC, 256RAM mult-media system. and Creative SoundBlaster Live.

I'm going to be checking a Barnes and Noble bookstore this up and coming weekend after a night of performing, to see if there are any Cakewalk manuals, and stuff...but, right now I must have something misconfigured. I am hearing sound thru my headphones as I play, but all playback is thru the computer speakers. Of course...that's trouble with feedback and noise with an acoustic or vocal mic. I know I'll figure this stuff out, but will appreciate any quick suggestions to resolve this (that is, after you get done rollin' your eyes! hahaha....), So...what step to get the playback sound thru the headphones?. Thanks...

If your importing the drum loops as midi files you wont be able to hear them through the aardvark soundcard because it has no built in midi synth. You must import them as audio files. If you want of keep them as midi in order to tweak them via the piano roll etc., your best bet is to by a keyboard with midi capabilities so that you can use the midi symth on the keyboard to play the drum files in midi through the aardvark with the rest of your audio files. Hope this helps.

bowzer, he says he has an SB Live too...

bloozguy, I suspect that the SB Live's recording controls are not enabled to record from the internal synth. Check out this article at Cakewalk's website, it's a very common problem:

If that isn't it we'll have to start scratching our heads a little harder...

thanks guys....

I also have Microsoft GS Wavetable SW Synth, SB Live! MIDI UART;

didn't really know what capabilities the 2496 soundcard had anyway, so good to know Bowser, thanks.

I'll check out the site AlChuck, and hopefully I can figure this thing out.

I just ordered "Cakewalk Power!" by Scott R. Garrigus from Amazon.com...so, hopefully that'll help me get on some solid ground as well.

The Microsoft GS Wavetable SW Synth is probably almost useless. The SB Live! MIDI UART is the MIDI interface -- MIDI In and Out ports.

Okay.....gotcha AlChuck, thanks.....

I followed the steps the site suggested, but...I've been burning cd's out of mine tonight, and printing out labels...(a gig this Saturday night), so hopefully tomorrow night I can mess around with it some again and find out if what I did helped. Thank again.
