Are mics female or male? Are they all different? Is it categorical like all Nuemans are men and all Senheisers are female? Maybe it's diaphram type or voltage requirements that determine it. I know cars are female and boats are too but what about mics?

Someone help me please, a life depends on it...don't ask whose, I am not sure what it is yet.

I just looked in the bottom of a couple of mics and I'm fairly sure they were male. But I'm no biologist.

Now that I think about it, tube mics are female. Warm, forgiving and expensive to service.

Dynamics are men, hard nuts but surprisingly efficient when you team them up with the right supporting cast.

Omnis are like kids, a good idea on paper but unless you have tonnes of money to spend on your rooms and plenty of patience they won't be so great in real life.

And radio mics are like your inlaws - keep away from them if you can at all help it, unless you stumble across one you get on with, in which case treasure it until its batteries run out.

I think you might be onto something. The ol' beater mics you might call "he" and the mics you cherish you might call "she." Don't think anything has every been set in stone on this subject. Maybe this thread can set it straight?
