serial numbers

Hey gang...where do you scare up the info on a guitar from its serial number? So many folks get excited about "whats the serial number". Does it tell the where is was made? what its made of? Blue book values? And where can I find all this information if I have a serial number? Thanks.

sometimes the guitar maker's website has a serial search...if you dig deep enough. and sometimes people you ask will know a particular make. what is it youre looking for?

One of the guys at work gave me the whole history of Jackson/Charvel guitars. The whos and wheres and all that. I personally am pretty impressed with my charvel. Its one that is set up exactly like the Jacksons...headstock and all. I was mostly just curious what morsels of information I would turn up on it from its serial
