I now use a tascam 122 which is a nightmare. I also own a m-audio 1x1 midi interface. My question is, could i use the m-audio midi interface for midi, and use a seperate audio interface such as the fast track (not pro). That is a seperate audio interface, and seperate midi interface, with a daw like sonar? I would be using two usb devices.

Would this work with pro tools?

Thanks

Your computer does not care how the midi gets in the box, it just needs to know where to point at by your settings in the programs preferences.

I've used a separate MidisportUSB2x2 for years with zero problems alongside many audio interfaces.

If you want to use ProTools you have to use a Digidesign interface or a qualified M-Audio interface.

I've used a midi USB interface (MOTU Fastlane) along with several different audio interfaces, and it always worked great. Sometimes better than the built in interface that the audio interface had!

interesting thread i stumbled across.... how could I tell if I could get an additional MIDI interface to work with my Mackie Onyx 1220 and Reaper? I want to slave Reaper to a timecode stripe track on a reel to reel deck.

That will be no problem at all. I have used reaper with 3 midi devices. Works like a champ..

No, I didn't say that. I said that I used reaper with 3 seperate midi devices, which is what the thread asked. Maybe I should have been more specific as to what I answered to, which was "how could I tell if I could get an additional MIDI interface to work with my Mackie Onyx 1220 and Reaper?". The reason WHY he wanted to do it was to sync the hardware to the midi sync, which is another question altogether (one that I cannot answer not having tried it).

really??

have you sync'ed Reaper to external hardware via MIDI? According to this thread (http://www.cockos.com/forum/showthread.php?t=6349) over on the Reaper forums, its not working yet.

also, can you recommend a cheap MIDI interface?

sorry, I am a total thread hijacker...
