I am searching for a pair of high quality mics suitable for recording acoustic instruments (violin, viola, flutes, guitar, also vocal), either solo, or played by two players, sometimes in acoustic reverberant places (as X/Y stereo pair), sometimes in the studio. First I was seriously considering Sennheiser MKH 40, then somebody recommended Schoeps microphones (MK 4) as maybe even better choice. Does anyone have an experience with both Sennheiser MKH 40 and Schoeps mics ? Could they be compared from the sound quality point of view ? Which of the two could be more recommendable for my type of application ? Thanks for your sharing.
