Which of these would be better for miking a guitar cab. heavy rythem sounds, smooth lead sounds and also clean tones, ala Dream theater. Also i will be using a line 6 flextone 3 2x12. Dont start all you tube people :( .
also heres a list of others im considering.

SP B1
SP C1
Beyer M69n
Sm57

Theres been a few questions similar to this lately but im still not sure. any help is greatly apreciated.
Thanks
Jamie

I don't think that you could really say that one will be better than the other...it depends on the room, amp, placement..etc. etc.

That said, from my opinion, the e609 has a more "hyped sound." It kind of boost the highs and lows. The 421 has more mids/low-mids and thus probably a little thicker sound. They both are very useful, and give you a good variety of sound...add a 57 and you've got a very good palette to choose from.

If you're talking about mic'ing electric guitars only, then IMHO, the E609silver has less low bottom than the MD-421... The 421 is a large diaphragm dynamic, which is why it has an extended bottom end. But because the e609s has a smaller diaphragm, it sounds "tighter" to me than the 421... the e609s sort of reminds me of a smoother SM-57 (less mid hype, smoother top end, similar bottom). I own all of these mics, and my current fav for clean Tele and Strat is the e609s; if I'm mic'ing a Marshall stack and need lots of bottom end "chug", I reach for the MD-421. the SP B-1 is good too if you want a fairly neutral sound. About all I use my 57's for anymore is for snares. FWIW.

But then, wouldn't you say that if you wanted to capture more closely the sound from the Marshall you might want to use the Sennheiser? This is, should one not want to "add" more 'chung' to the already existing 'chung'... :p

I think he is saying the MD421 is better suited to actually picking up the "chug," period, because it has an extended low end response.

So the B1 should be the one that would most accuratly represent my amp tone?
What about picking up background noise though. Will it be bad?

Lord, no. Aren't you recording heavy distorted guitar?

If you can justify the extra cash, I'd take the MD421. If you don't think it is worth it to dump a few hundred bucks more, then go with the SM57 or the E609. You have to pick there.

Which version of the Md 421 does everyone use. There are so many.

I bought a 421 with the main intention of using it on toms and guitar cabs, it always see's the floor tom, but rarely sees a cab. I prefer my 441 on guitars almost without fail.
421 is still a good mic though. Good for screamo vocals too.

What is the difference between the 441,421 and e609s in terms of EQ,sound.
