Gah! I'm so torn between the two headphones, I've been researching reviews all night and they both seem to fit my bill... but I will explain my situation further and would highly appreciate anyone with any insight/experience on these two cans give me some help in making a decision! :)

Ok so essentially my Behringer HPS3000 $29 headphones are broken. I've had them for 4 years and they were the best headphones I'd ever owned, mostly because I knew their sound inside and out. But I want to invest in some better studio headphones and my choices are the HD 598 or SRH840 (since there is a ridiculous sale on both of them).

I'm looking for audio quality primarily, any perks of open/closed and isolation that these headphones have aren't deal breakers. I want something with the purest response that will make my mixes sound like shit!!

Currently I have a tendency of over-applying bass and making things a little muddy, so I'd like something with a lot of punch on the low end so I'm not overdialing the bass when mixing. I also tend to smack some harsh treble into my mixes so headphones that would really give me an accurate representation would be awesome so I can address that issue when mixing. But I still want the cans to be enjoyable when listening to other music!

I primarily produce metal so again, I need to be able to hear that bass punch. I also do a lot of rock, electronic (dubstep), and jazz and some acoustic guitar stuff. So essentially I need headphones that are well-rounded. But again I produce metal/rock mostly...

I also do a lot of video editing so headphones that really give me a nice representation of the soundscape and stereo imagery is also another large factor.

That's about it, if anyone could help me decide between these two headphones then that would be fantastic. But maybe you have another set of headphones that you could recommend to me. Just give me some opinions haha!

Thanks!
