I originally ordered AT AE5100's, but they kept getting backordered, so I got a refund and started looking elsewhere. I originally wanted LDC's, but was familiar with the positive reviews of the e914's and when I stumbled on a dealer who had 11 of them at $130 cheaper than the main guys, I snagged a couple of them. Although I have read many positives about the Senn's elsewhere, I do not see much here on them. Decent mics or did I piss money into the wind? These will be mainly for solo classical guitar, but will also use to record live jams with buds.

e914

I don't think anyone will ever piss away money on any Sennheiser mic. They make really good stuff. Not to mention, they are tough, so it will last you a long time.

I use the e914 for recording mostly bowed stringed instruments, woodwind and piano. I have a webpage with links to various recordings I've done with them. I've done little in the way of direct comparisons, I had a couple of 20 year-old Shure SM81 before but much prefer the e914.

They were in my top 3 picks on the Tape Op SD mic shootout, which you can find out more about on this forum. For classic guitar, try them in coincedent configuration (X-Y) backed off about 1-1.5 meters. No, you have not pissed away money. You have acquired a pair of studio workhorses.-Richie
