Hi and thanks for taking a look,

I was in need of assistance in connecting the following devices:

1) One active subwoofer with just an rca mono jack (has a built in crossfader switch)
2) Two Active monitor/speakers Yamaha MSP5s
3) Synth keyboard (or any Stereo device)

Basically I'd like a device (preferably a DIY device) that can take the inputs from my Synth and feed both input channels to the active subwoofer and to the Left and Right monitors/speakers. I think I don't need any amping of signals as the sub and monitors are powered. I'd just combining the L/R to the mono so that if a low signal from either L or R is generated, it registers on the sub.

What device would accomplish this? Ultimately I would like to embed a PCB board into the subwoofer chase that feeds the L/R to the sub and slap some 1/4" mono jacks for input (from the synth) and output (for the monitors) and be done with it. Didn’t want to add another wall wart to the mix. PCB creation and soldering is fine with me.

Thanks,
Moe

Thanks Ido1957,

but is there any specific device other than a mixer? Like a active/passive crossover? not sure the difference between passive or active is but my research indicates something like that device should do. Do you know of any schematic designs that I reference to build one?

Thanks,
Moe

What I would do is connect to Yamaha's as normal, full range using the inbuilt crossover.

I would a split from each of the signal lines (left and right) going to the Yamaha's and send the left and right to a Summing Box
Take the mono out from the summing box to the sub.

You still get full low frequencies in the yamaha's but the sub reinforces the low end and helps where the Yamaha's don't get low enough. The Summing box enables the Stereo signal to remain Stereo but the mono out is a sum of the stereo going to the sub.

Cheers
Alan

Looks like we have a winner!

Hi Alan,

You are the man!!!

Was researching this for days and never came across a "Summing Box". Looks like this is exactly what I need.

Thank you so much for the suggestion!!!
