As I stated in the "entry-level" thread, I'been quite well-off with the two combos i've been having the past 5-6 years. a Laney bc120 and some Marshall 80W.

Now, everyone even starting out got heads and cabs at least 300W..
So, Im thinking about getting something bigger myself.

What would you recommend for some 600-800$??
For a 1000 I'd have to wait a couple of months.

I'm not in a hurry, and not seeking the most wattage, but enough to pull a small open-air concert through.. I've liked the solidstate Laney cleanliness, and buying a couple of muffs anyhow, so I'm not sure if I want the tube maintenance..or price per wattage?

Hmmmm..... Ampeg's are great but aren't cheap. You should look into some Ashdowns. They're affordable and good.

If you can find one you can get a Kustom groove head which 850 watts at 4 ohms and 1200 at 2. I got mine for 400 as it was blem. ( All it was a chip on the corner Not even noticable). Then buy an avatar cab. If you can it is more than worth it to the neo versions.

Thanks for the tips, but never bought from e-bay, and I live in north europe, so shipping is a drag..
I prolly want a new gear.. what names should I prefer?

Ampeg
Warwick
Ashdown (MAG 300H Head and Mag 410T 4X10 seems suitable) ..and cheap.
Other?

Local shop tried to sell me Behringer.. but I'll get them to order something useful..

swr makes some good value stuff, imo.

A friend of mine bought a great sounding "Acoustic" bass amp & cab from the late 70's/early 80's off eBay for buttons. Awesome sounding machine, Acoustic amps are no longer, but used to have John Paul Jones as an endorsee.

I got my Ampeg 150 watt head used at GC for $600. If you go there enough you can catch some great deals, just make sure you try it out first, their not above trying to pass off run down amps as "like new!"
