I heard some acoustic guitar recordings done the other day using the SE Electronics SE1's model i think, and also the SE Electronics Z5600a and the results seemed astounding. Anyone used this range of mics? they seem quite a great sound for reasonable money.

I haven't been overly impressed with the SE mics I've heard... I owned an SE-3500 for a whlie and it was an ok radio host type mic but nothing to get excited about. I think a lot of small mom and pop type music stores push the SE mics because they can get them cheap and turn a pretty good profit. All in all... I don't think the SE mics are any better or worst than the other cheap Chinese made budget mic.

I have the SE2200 (not the SE2200A) and it's fine ... people are creaming themselves over them in the UK stores, but they've not had the Studio Projects line and the Samson and Behringer mics in the price range don't take much to beat.

They seem well-built though. Oh, and the SE1 is identical to an ADK mic which normally goes slightly cheaper from Academy of Sound. They're all from Feilo - check out their website and play spot the microphone with a different name on it.

Hi
Thanks, i didn't know the mics were made by Felio and badged SE, the one i was looking at was the Z5600a and the best price i can find in the UK is 350 uk pounds. It must have a real mark up on the mic as much as 75% i guess. I notice in the us the same mic is around the 350 dollars quite a difference. Anyone any idea of the difference between the Z5600 and theZ5600a.
Thanks once again

We looked at reviewing the SE1 about a year ago or more. We passed as we found it to be just plain awful.

The small condensers we liked around that time were the Rode NT5 and the Audio-Technica AT3031. My fave inexpensive small condenser is the Oktava MK012.

Really? Shop people are really hyping these mics here - although they don't tend to carry much in the way of SP, AT or Oktava ... stupid UK

I have almost all Feilo mics . Z-5600 is good . The only con is it has a bit thick sensitivity at infrasonic . You can see it can record infrasonic ( of course you can't hear it ) , that infrasonic make the peak meter a little high , you will think it is noise , but when you look at the wave you will know that is infrasonic . So you better turn on the lo cut .
