I am planning to buy a Beyerdynamic small condenser. I have found these two to consider: Opus 83 and MCE 94 (double the price of Opus 83 and can be powered by 9v battery). I will use the microphone mainly (but not exclusively) for recording acoustic guitar. The mixer I use is Yamaha Mg 10/2.
Has anyone compared these mics to similarly priced small condensers? I was thinking of buying Oktava mk012, but it`s much easier to get the Beyerdynamics in my area. Other easy available options for me are AKG c1000s, Studio Projects C4 and Behringer B5.

I have heard good things about the Peluso CEMC6 mics and the Josephson C42 mics. A matched pair would be preferable. Do a search on these and find out more about them, you may be surprised at what you read. Good luck!

Thanks for the reply. I know that there are other, perhaps better mics than the ones I mentioned. I just wanted to get some information on these Beyerdynamics. Anyone?

mxl 603s are great great bang for the buck sdc mics. a little harsh at times but a great clean sounding overhead or acoustic mic.

Aren't they just off-the-peg OEM models again? I swear I saw a Beyer SDC that looks identical to the ADK SC-1/JoeMeek JM27/SE Electronics SE-1.

FWIW - My decision was to get a pair of C4s. I have a pair and so does my recording partner and we frankly love them. They're really good for acoustics and everything else I've tried them on.

The other option I would suggest in this price range is the Røde NT5s ... not as good as the C4s IMHO, but I've had good results with them on OH.

Noisedude, in your opinion, having used both the 603s and the C4 - which do you like better for rock/pop OH?

I've got the 603s and someday will have the C42MP.

I haven't used the MXL603s! They're basically not available in Britain for sensible money ... they cost the equivalent of twice what you pay in the States and 1.7 times what the SP C4s and Oktava MK012s cost.

I bought mine from the US and as I recall it worked out at less than £100 per mic after VAT and carriage. That was some time ago now though and it is extra hassle and waiting time.

i've looked at the joesephson's on atlas. the information sheet fails to tell you what directional pattern they are. then, the MP set costs $100 more than just buying two of them!! I guess the box costs $100?

That's a matched pair, and they almost always cost more than buying two singles, I guess because of the added time and effort needed to match the freq response and output as closely as possible.

I`ve been looking for a pair of sdc`s myself, and the c4`s looks like the best bang for the buck for me.

I allready have a B1 and if theire anyway near as impressing as that is I know I`ll be a happy camper.
