Screensets in Reaper

I have tried to set up a couple of screensets in Reaper. The process seems very simple. However, when I press the designated "Load" key e.g. F4 etc. to load a chosen screen, nothing happens. I used the Track tab when setting up the screensets. Even in the screensets window, when I double-click the requested screen, nothing happens. What on earth am I doing wrong or omitting etc. Brian the newbie.

First thing to check is if your screensets were set up under the Windows Tab in the Screensets/Layouts window, OR under the Track Tab. Using the Track Tab only sets up a screenset for your current project. Using the Windows Tab creates a system screenset to be used globally on all projects.

Thank you for your reply. Having watched an excellent video and having read the Reaper manual I was aware of that so I tried both. Neither worked. According to the manual and the video it seems quite simple to set up. Simply cannot figure why it does not work. Anyway, thanks again. I really do appreciate your reply. Brian

Does your Keyboard require you to hold the Fn key to use the F4 key? Some do, some don't, but since you can't just change the Screenset/Layout from clicking the actual Screenset/Layout and not just hitting your F4 key... maybe that's not the issue. Just spit balling.

I can't think of anything. There's not much involved to begin with, just the options in the screenset window.

I just tried setting up a couple random screensets under Tracks and they work perfectly. I started with a screenset of the project's opening screen, setting that as F4. Then I zoomed in on a guitar track, setting that as F5. I flip back and forth F4, F5, F4, etc. They switch back and forth no problem.

Sumfin' funny goin' on here

I did just that. Also, I tried using Fn key with the F4 etc. Does not work either. Is it possible that I have to tick or untick something in another menu. (This happened when I had a punch-in problem). I am grateful for your comments and interest. Brian

All I can think of is you may be setting up a screen that's not triggered by the Track function keys.

Why don't we try something. You describe the exact steps you're using when you modify your screen before creating it's screenset, then each step you take to create the screenset and save it.

I'll try to duplicate that on my end and see what happens.

1. I open a project. 2. I click View/Screenset/layouts 3. Track view 4. Click number 1 5. Click SAVE 6. Enter "No mixer" (no inverted commas) 7. Save 8. Change my screen to display the full mixer. 9. Click View/Screensets/layouts 10. Click line 2 11. Click SAVE 12. Enter "Full Mixer" 13. Click Save. At this point I do not do anything with the Screensets window. I then Hit F4 and nothing happens. I then double-click F4 (line 1) in the screensets window. Again, nothing. Brian

Got it. You're setting things up outside of the Track section, that's why the Track Load Keys F4/F5 aren't working for you.

Instead, open Screensets/Layouts and select the Windows tab. Repeat all of your previous settings for the F7/F8 Load keys and see what happens. I did this and the F7/F8 Load keys worked fine when I did screensets for two different Mixer sizes.

The Windows Tab affects the Main Mixer and the Track Faders/Controls, as well as other parts of the screen, but not the actual Tracks to their right. The Track Tab affects the actual Tracks where the waves are recorded.

Many thanks. It is Saturday evening here in England. I will do this tomorrow and let you know. By the way, I had tried the Windows tab and it did not work. However, I will certainly give it go tomorrow morning ! Many thanks, Brian

I did another. This should work. One thing I'm experiencing on my end is a short delay when flipping between F7 and F8. At first, I thought mine wasn't working either, then, after several seconds, it flipped. I don't know what the cause of this delay is. If you're also experiencing this, try waiting between selections to give it more time.

1. Open Project (Mixer docked at bottom of screen in default location)
2. Screensets/Layouts/Windows
3. Click 1 F7
4. Click Save
5. Name "Mixer"
6. Save
7. Top Menu VIEW
8. Deselect Mixer (to remove it from screen altogether)
9. Screensets/Layouts/Windows
10. Click 2 F8
11. Click Save
12. Name "No Mixer"
13. Save

Oh.. you have to use Fn+ . . . My desktop doesn't, but my laptop does and I dislike that feature very much.

Hi, please see my comments below. Problem now solved thanks to your input as well. Many thanks, Brian
