I purchased a Yamaha MG12XU and am very pleased with the sound overall, my question is what is the best way to incorporate my sub woofer into the output sound. I have to admit I am a little bit confused by the Group 1/2 and Aux 1/2
I can connect the subwoofer via the monitor outs but I don't think that's the correct/best way to accomplish the amount of sound I want to get from the sub woofer.
I would appreciate input as to the correct way to accomplish this.

What is the mixer used for? What other speakers do you have connected to it?

The mixer is used to provide signal to 2 powered Mackie 450's and one powered subwoofer. I perform as a moblie DJ (sometimes weddings and other times at private events or weekly karaoke shows). I use both wireless and wired mics at karaoke shows.
The sub is primarily for weddings and DJ events where the Bass is more appropriate to the event.

I have to admit, not familiar with a Crossover or how that is incorporated into the system. Does anyone know how to bring a subwoofer into the system? If it is with a crossover, I'd like to learn how.

The cross over will send the required signal to the required speakers etc.
Set it to send low to the sub, mids & high to the speakers etc etc.
Most speaker systems/boxes that have multiple cones use a crossover circuit to direct signal to appropriate cones for reproduction.
The Behri in Chili's link is cheap and seems pretty good - it even has a sub provision so you'd be ready to go.
Read the description and spec sheet.
