Hello I found a fostex m80 that I bought. I am wondering now what tape I need. Also it works well but needs a good cleaning. Anybody know what sort of tune up that one would do with a machine such as this?

I also now need to get a mixer and 2 microphones. I know the mixer needs to have phantom power and I would like it to be at least 12 channel. Any body have any suggestions? I need time tested vintage sounding equipment.

A really nice 12 channel board with phantom power would be a TASCAM M312B. This is a 12x12x4x2x1 mixer with RCA pin jack connectivity for your Fostex recorder as well as a bevy additional inputs and routing possibilities.

I own two of them, myself.

Cheers! :)

thanks for the info.

anybody got any "tuneup" or cleaning information or resources?

Pages 11 and 12 of the Owners Manual Tells

Pages 11 and 12 have the "Routine Maintenance" items, for cleaning, demagnetization, and alignments (calibrating play/record LED Meters).

I've seen the manual online, don't remember where though, sorry.
I have a printed one, so I never bookmarked or downloaded it.

Hope that helps.

I had a Fostex 80 for a brief period of time. It should be OK to use RMGI LPR35 on 7" reels, as far as I know (but then, I don't know much).

I even think I have the manual somewhere... If you can wait a few days, I'll see if I can find it. Or try diplodocs.com.

As for general cleaning, you don't need a manual. If it's very dusty, use a vacuum cleaner (with care!!!!) or compressed air. On the heads, use cotton swabs with isopropyl alcohol. On the surfaces, use a lightly damp cloth.

Ouch. That sounded like a washing note.
