I have three studio condenser mics...two LDCs, a Behringer B-2 and an MXL...not sure the model number; it's the white one from the Desktop Recording Kit...supposedly a cross between the 990 and the 603, and a handheld, the Shure SM85.
The MXL hasn't come in yet (was a recent eBay purchase), but with those two condensers to choose from, I keep coming back to the Audio Tech MB1000 for lead vocal work. The B-2 has HORRIBLE off-axis rejection, which makes for a good room mic, but doesn't endear it to close work. The SM85 seemed to be far too bright for my vocals.
In my quest for better sound in the studio (or what passes for it around here), I'm considering modding the MXL...I've seen some posts on here about these modifications. My father is an electronics expert (spent years working in TV, video, and sound repair; changing a capacitor isn't going to be at all a problem for him).
Is there a place to get schematics for these mics? It would make determining proper replacement parts a lot easier.
