where can i purchase the sblive platinum card perferably over the internet but if you anywhere i could get it i would appreciate it......

Taz, go to computershopper.com and do a search. It'll bring up the sites and prices. I get a lot of stuff from accubyte.com and compuplus.com.

Just curious....what are you wanting to use it for?

If you're doing digital audio recording, don't get a Platinum Live! The sound quality is poor. Better to get an Echo Mia or M-Audio Audiophile or Dio 2448. These cards are night and day better than any Live! card for digital audio. If you want MIDI capabilities, also buy a Live! Value card for $50.

tdukex is big time right! SB is a dog with flees for recording! I've got a (discontinued) Darla24 and a blaster live value for midi.
Shoulda waited for the Mia.:(

I respectfully disagree that the Live is so much worse than the better cards that the difference is like "night and day." More like late afternoon and early evening.

Compared to a 4-track cassette multitracker, even a cheap soundcard usually sounds much better.

If tazkatraz's budget and/or level of experience suggests to him a Sound Blaster Live, well, he could do worse. It will still sound very good and enable him to learn his recording chops for a great price.

I would suggest, though, that the LiveDrive thing is not worth the $100 difference between the Platinum and the other packages (MP3+ and X-Gamer). The core card is the same. You'd be better off with a small mixer than the LiveDrive.

First, I have great respect for Alchuck's views. I always read his posts with the notion of perhaps learning something. However...

I have a M-Audio Dman 2044 and a Live! Value. The Dman blows the Live! out of the water for digital audio. They are not in the same league. Period.

The Live! is a wonderful card for soundfonts, and I love it for that. And, yes, it will do an ok job on digital audio if it's all you have. It's not horrible. But for $150-$200 you can get an Echo Mia. Hell, Slackmaster found a Delta 44 for $199!

If you absolutely gotta have a soundcard right now, buy the Live! Value for $50 and save your money for a good digital audio card that can be had for less than $200. I will not suggest someone should fork out $90+ dollars on a poor (in comparison) digital audio card (the Live! Platinum) when much better cards (Echo, M-audio, and others) can be had for not a lot more money--unless it is someone who it would take another 2 years to save up the additional $60.

I do agree with Alchuck that the Live Drive is a waste of $100, and you'd be better off buying a small mixer with that cash.

Or a better card!
