I bought a SB X-fi card last night and then i got on here and read about everyones low opinion of SB, mainly in the audigy line. My question is I did a search and didnt see any comments on the X-fi cards and was wondering if anyone had any knowlege of these.

Anything is better than the on-board Hunk-o-junk that came with my pc but will the quality get me by for a bit till i decide to invest in a better brand? Did Creative labs finally come out with this card to compete in the recording area or is it still going to be on the low end of the quality scale?

Any input will be appreciated. Even the input that im a NOOB cause I bought a SB

Very Very True. The problem with these cards is you're usually locked into a specific bit depth and sample rate (16/48 I believe), the drivers for audio apps are usually not very mature (lots of sync issues, dropouts, etc...), and the converters in these cards well...suck bad!

The cheapest X-Fi runs around what like $120, you could pick up an M-Audio 2496 for $20 cheaper than that and be good to go with basic recording. There are also other good options like the E-MU 0404, or the Echo Audio MiaMIDI. All will be suited for audio much better than any Soundblaster card anywhere.

Well you can get an E-MU 0404 for about $100 or a M-Audio 2496 or an M-Audio Audiophile for about the Same Price or a Bit more But still in the Audigy Price Range and for a Far Superior Recording Card.....

If I were you I would Return the Audigy X-Fi card and Get a Real Recording Card, That is if Recording is what you want to do....

Cheers

The X-fi can be switched into a "Creation" mode where it really works at the samplerate of the audio. However, I don't think they're particularly cheap and you're not saving much money by getting an X-fi. So if you don't need the things like hardware acceleration for game sound fx like EAX, you'd be better off buying an E-mu card or something else meant for music workstations. DirectX game sounds and Media players will work well on modern pc's without an acclerator card like the Soundblasters.

The next generation of E-mu cards will probably be based on the new chip for the X-fi just as the current ones are based on the Audigy2 chip. Creative = E-mu in case some people aren't aware of this.
