I am planning to get a Yamaha DG stomp with has digital output (cordial).

I am using a SB Live! Value soundcard. I notice in the manual that it has a SPDIF input on the card. can I use that to connect the DG stomp and my soundcard?

any info on how to use the SPDIF input in SBLive is appreaciated.

Thanks.

As I recall, that card has a S/PDIF input on a RCA connector. It will be labled Digital In or S/PDIF In. It may even have outputs for that too! The soundcard itself is capable of playing 16 bit 48KHz(?) files. But the S/PDIF connection is capable of handling up to 24 bit transfers (although because of the 16 bit converters, you could not listen to 24 bit files) up to I recall 96KHz sampling rate (again you couldn't listen to a 96KHz file because your converters don't go that high).

Anyway, if your Yamaha DG Stomp has a S/PDIF output, and they and it is on a RCA connector, you COULD simply use a very short RCA cable to connect them to do transfers. It is recommended that you use a coax cable, like what you would use for your VCR to TV for this connection. You would need to get an adaptor from the BNC connection on the coax cable to RCA, but they can be had at Radio Shack for pretty cheap.

is the coax cable the one with the phono leads?

why would I need them if both jacks are RCA? what are the advantages?

Thanks.

I have just leant that in order to have digital I/O, I have to get an extra board for my SB Live!, either the Digital I/O card or Live! ware.

Anyone using these cards?

Yes leeking, only the SB Live! full edition has digital I/O. For the SBLive (Value) you'll need a add-on card. I think Hoontech also has such a card and cost less than your SB upgrade. .... err no, I don't have any relation to the company. You'll have to search the net for info of that as I have little.

Thanks for the info HongTeck.

The HoonTech SB DB III is a cheaper alternative to support SB Live! with digital I/O.

anyone has experience with this one?
