has anyone bought this piece of hardware?
what advantages have you gained from it?

do the 1/4" inputs help a lot

In fact - another question that's related - what's the bext 1/4 to 1/8 inch adapter to get for TRS inputs?

thanks

RE: SB Live Drive

No, it's not worth it for recording purposes. It works great as a gaming card and for other generic purposes, but for recording, get something that is dedicated to recording. I have only been able to get the Live Drive Inputs (Mic, SPDIF, etc) to work in Creative's recorder thingy, they don't work in any of my multitrack or audio apps (N-Track, Cool Edit, etc)...

anyways, I'd advise against it for recording, it's just not made for that.

I think there have been multiple other posts stating the same thing....

I've got a Live Platinum with the LiveDrive, and I seem to be able to get it to work just fine in Cakewalk. Is your "Creative Mixer" set to record from Line In/Mic (2)?

Don't buy the SB Live for recording analog sources. It's just not a good sounding card. For only slightly more money, you can jump into a 24bit card that will sound considerably better.

The Live! is good for MIDI/soundfont crap though.

I'd mostly go along with everyone. Its a fine game card, and if you are just getting started with digital audio it is something you can play with. I have one in a machine at work that I use for dubbing old cassettes to (it works fine with Sound Forge). You are probably best off buying the "value" edition (about $50 OEM). Save the rest of the money, then when you are ready to start seriously recording your own stuff buy a better card.
