Hi,

I am a newbie to all of this. I just purchased an edirol pcr 30 usb midi keyboard and I am hearing a delay from the time a press a key and hearing it on my speakers. I have the keyboard connected via USB directly connected to a USB port on my computer.
I have tried using Acid, cubase SX, Cakewalk and I am using things like NI pro 53 & Absynth. No matter what I do there is still a delay.
I have a 1.4ghz, 512MB RAM, all the latest drivers and an SB Live card. Am I doing something wrong? Is there a setting I need to change? any suggestions would be helpful.

Thanks

What OS are you running? Do you know if the soundcard drivers are WDM or MME?

Midi delay

I am using WindowsXP and the drivers are windows classic wave driver. I also have an option for Microsoft sound mapper.

Thanks for your help

With "classic" MME drivers you cannot get acceptable realtime response from softsynths. You need WDM or ASIO drivers (both if you want to use all the apps you listed).

i'm using the KX drivers and i thought they were the problem, because i have terrible delay, with the same setup.

Where do you choose if you want wdm, or asio, or mme, or whatever?

i think in logic audio i have mme possibly selected. But that's just logic, is there a control panel where you can set it in general?

The only way I have efficiently hurdled the latency obstacle with the sblive is to record the tracks using general midi voices and the soundcard synth. After its tracked then route it to the software synth of choice and use the voice, sample, or soundfont that you desire.

That is how i fixed it before, but now even using the generic synth sounds in logic creates unplayable delay.

I have tried the KX drivers and I still have the delay. I am still tinkerind around to see what I can do. Thanks to all of you for your answers. Keep them coming.
