Howdy, all . .

Thought I'd say a hello, and thank the mods and everyone for having a great place to get advice and learn the ins-and-outs of putting together my first home studio setup. Currently a smallish endeavour, but being a guitar player with severe GAS, I'm sure it'll take on a life (and a dollar-figure) of its own . I've done as much research as I can without spending a ton yet for hands-on trial and error, but have a 1/2 decent start.

I want to set up a modest but effective place to write, lay down ideas, record band rehearsals off the floor, and perhaps, be able to do listenable demos.

Don't have a lot of gear yet, but am in the process of researching and buying. Using a PC for now, but not sure which software yet. Have a MOTU 896HD firewire interface, some mics (couple of SP B-1's, SM57 and an ATM 650). Have access borrow more while I build up a harem. Have a SIIG NN-440012-S8 firewire card with the TI TSB43AB23 chip on order.

Am basically looking to use the MOTU as an interface, grab a Control Surface with motorized faders, and add whatever else might be needed to at least get things off to a start.

If I ask stoopid questions, please feel free to smack me around a bit before answering :o. I'll need some help with a couple of technical things, advice on gear to buy, and probably DAW operation and setup. I'll read as much as I can here that's already been posted.

Cheers!

Scott . . .

Welcome Scott!

"Sudsy100".....???...huh?

I gotta ask...what's the significance of that handle? :D

Anyway, hang out, ask questions (stoopid or otherwise, we've all been there)...this is a pretty good place, and lots of helpful folks.

Thanks, miroslav! We've all been newbies in just about every area at point or another, and it can be a bit uncomfortable while scaling the learning curve. So I sincerely appreciate the friendly atmosphere here.

As to the handle . . . truth be known, my last name is Sutherland, and the standard nick from birth for that is Sudsy (don't ask me how come . . . it's a Scottish ancestry thing that goes way back I think). Seeing as Sudsy is generally taken up on a lot of sites, I just settled on Sudsy100 for some reason that probably seemed to make sense at the time .

Glad to be here!

Reaper is a good place to start for software. Also most interfaces come with LE versions of some DAW or another.

Welcome aboard Suds

Thanks arcadeko. Much appreciated, and happy to be aboard!

Reaper was high up on the recommended list. I fired it up with my Delta 66, but as soon as my firewire card arrives, I'll be able to do some testing in earnest with the MOTU 896HD.

And hey . . . Suds works great!
