EV Variable-D mics I have four. Thing is.. 'truth is.. :guitar: It's such a cool subject -the EV mics in general, but where it also leads and such. So I 'sort of grabbed it?
Haven't done anything like this.. ever maybe. Just going to 'dump here, no particular order.
Cjacek- The four- two RE-20s (one at least rebuilt way back), two RE-16s bought new, all in great shape.. Thing is, I am slowed way down (old!) I flat out love these (and others :>) so no, they're not going anywhere.
RE-20s -a little warmer -perfect in so many 'places/ways. RE-16s -a little lighter on the low end, a tad brighter up top as well. (Noticed this singing live on it -I didn't quite care for exactly.)
Which... leads me to the other place I was headed. Shure's KSM-8s ..and '9 HS. The KSM-8 is dynamic -cardioid. The KSM-9s are condensers, and a bit pricey.
Now, the '8s.. None of the frikin hyped top end like most -thank you so much! And almost no proximity effect! Here.. I'd better be careful.. lest I come off like some puppy dog' fan :>)
The two traits put together.. regular folks -as in no 'FOH guy fixing stuff.. Umm, where the hell were these, my last 'thirty years please :listeningmusic:
My acoustic guys, some electric gigs.. Everyone's just sounded good- easily 'natural like singing on them, little or none of the fussing to get there. After a taste of what Shure did here I invested in three of them.
The KSM-9s now.. I wouldn't have even bothered, knowing the above, the cardioid / super cardioids both do +5-6 up at 15k'ish. You know that pop vocal sound/style. Yikes :>)
The KSM-9HS 'HS for what ever reason is Hyper-cardioid.. in that pattern position -goes a bit higher than the '8, but still tame up top.
Links would be good I 'spose
KSM-8
KSM-9HS
Huh, 'HS' 'hyper and 'sub cardioid foo! Only took.. how many years?
