Saving tracks from diff songs.

I am working on 2 songs at the moment and when I try and save the multi-track session it wants to overwrite tracks from another song.
What am I doing wrong?

i.e.
I previously recorded a track1. i record another song and try to save it and it wants to overwrite track1 with the newly recorded piece thus eliminating track1 from the first song.
 
Give each session the name of the song, then number each track so it wont try to overwrite....such as "My song track1..track2..etc.
I hope thats what you are looking for. :confused:
 
i do name the session, but it still tries to overwrite the tracks. i have tried naming the tracks but that doesnt stick to the mp3.

so how would i do that?
 
In Windows Explorer, create a folder for each song: Song 1, Song 2. Every time you save a track, save it to either Song 1 or Song 2. Do that by clicking on Save As when you want to save the track. That will let you save the track wherever you want. Be sure to click on Options in the box that pops up when you click on Save As and select the correct format for the wav as well.

:) Perfect system
AA2,0 makes those folders automatically every time you make "new session" and name it as "New_session_recorded"
It's really important to have a kind of system from the beginning!
 
okay,
so
i just save each seperate track into its own fsong folder. Do I then save the session into the folder as well?

Do you guys save tracks as mp3's or just wav files?

Yeah, after you save a new track in a session, you have to then save the session as well, so that CE/AA knows what's in the session and what the settings for each track are.

Wav or mp3? Wav, every time. It's a higher resolution and better sound, and if you need to convert it to mp3 later on for some reason, it's really easy. But if you save it as mp3 from the get go, then you don't later have the option of increasing the resolution. Record, mix and save at the highest resolution your machine is capable of. Dumb it down later if you have to.

Don't do that. Keep all sessions in same folder. It is easier to find and open it next time you start CEP (AA)
Cool Edit is always opening folder what was resent used. If you keep them all in same main folder then you are always
just one step from opening any session you want.
My suggestion is:
Make one main folder like: "My Audio Projects" with all sessions and all subfolders on the same level in it.
 
Sure, but it's *very* useful to have a separate folder for each Session/song.
 
Well, I think I screwed it up.

I have 2 songs recorded. I have saved all the track as mp3's. I have the sessions saved also. I have 1 track from the 1st song that has been overwritten with a track from the second song. I went to mix it down and it was in mp3 format when i saved it.

I also have 3 other songs that I moved over to pc from tape, made them on a 4 track and saved to hd in mp3 format.

Is there any way I can get this mess lined out to produce a cd with?

(by the way, my dvd writer - BenQ DW1625 is wacked!, ...keeps opening and shutting and half opening ... wont burn or play or anything! It practicaly new too. Havent even used the lightscribe yet!)

There might be a way to straighten some of the mess out if you didn't delete or overwrite too much.

1 Open the session with the first song. Are any of the tracks from that session missing? If so, insert them into the session. In Multitrack, click 'Insert' and then 'Wave from file'. When you get the 'Open a Waveform' box, go to the other session where you think the lost track might be. If it's there, highlight it and click it into your session.

2 Save it using 'Save As'. Make sure when doing this that you're saving it in the right session, in the right folder.

3. Go back to Multitrack and save the session.

4. Repeat as necessary until all the tracks you want in each session are in their proper sessions.

5. Back everything up.

6. Now, delete every track that doesn't belong in each session.

7. Save and back up.

8. Promise me you will never save a perfectly good wav file as an mp3 again. ;)
