After taking some advice from some of the guys on the forum I finally got my dad to let me get a proper vocal condenser microphone. A Rode NT1000. This is the first song I've used it in.

Please give honest opinions about the mix
Thanks
Tukkis

P.S.- If you don't already know from other threads I'm only 15

Nice cover kid,

you've certainly got your stuff together.
Long live the passion,

Theron.

nice...but I hate to disappoint, but the vocals sound a tad nasal-y. when the chorus hits, with the multi vocals, it IS much better, but the solo verse voice hurts a tad. I think a little more experimenting with the vocal setup will improve your situation.

For whatever age you are, you've got some good stuff going for you. I could care if you're 15 or 150... You're getting some good gtr sounds, and have a decent grasp on production...and YEAH>..for 15 you CAN PLAY IN TIME!!!!!! holy shit, batman!!!!

Nice tasty lead licks and sound. No need to be Van Halen...eh?;)

btw...what are you plugging your mic into, and monitoring over?

man...I felt bad with my earlier post. Here you are...convinced your Dad to get you a great mic, and I say it sucks.... smack me upside the head, will ya? But honestly, what do you record into? I think with that mic, you'll be able to get a much better sound if you gave more details on your recording chain/setup...etc.

Btw....how old do you have to be before I can stop begging equipment from my folks?? I'm in my 40's...(not giving any more details than that). Shoot, I remember my Dad got me a $300 Gretsch duo jet back in the 60's??.....mid 60's. A lot of $$$ back then. He was my best friend. Sounds like you got a great Dad too. You're a lucky dude. Pay him back with some great music.

mixmkr,

You big ol' softy:D , your post was respectful, encoraging and 10x more informative than mine. I wanna know about that vocal chain as well.

P.S. I'm in my early 30's. My dad got me a Guitar Stand when I was 18 (that's when I started playing). I still have it and use it and it is one of my favorite pieces of music related ware.

Tukkis,
You've got talent, a seemingly supportive father and the aid of mixmkrs ears. Look Out!!!!:D :D

the drums sound great to me...i'm assuming they are real yes?

the crash certainly sounds real...the hi hat is pristine...how did you mic the drums?

i dont really like the flange sounding guitars on the chorus.....sometimes that sound will come about by double tracking 2 otherwise good sounding guitars...but, phase and all that crap comes into play...or maybe that was just the sound you wanted.

sounds really tight man, i like it.

Hey Tukkis, that was really good!

Opinion: I didn't hear anything wrong with it,... just a good jam, good vocal, and good vibe all the way through. Heck ya!

Truth: That's pretty impressive, coming from a 15 year old 'kid'.

Question: How was this recorded? I assume it was recorded onto the 'puter?

Comment: You're jammin', dude!

Okay Mike, your version was really good too!

It's a really fine production, the standard of which I've just come to know as "Mike DiGangi/King Elvis".

Listening to these two covers, back to back, it shows a contrast of production styles, and resulting sound.

IMO, for what it's worth, Tukkis' version sounded more natural, acoustic, and had an 'airy' ambience. King E's version sounded a little more DI, overall.

Both tracks showcase some fine playing, and I basically give them both the thumbs up. It is interesting to listen to them, back to back, though, and they both sound really similar, and also different.

-Tukkis' production sounds more 'acoustic', and King E's sounds more DI.

-Tukkis' drum track sounds really live, and King E's sounds 'programmed', in contrast to the former.

-Tukkis and King E both have different qualities to their voices. Tukkis has a very soulful voice, especially for a 15 year old, and King E has a more 'straight' sounding vocal, that also has a bit more of a 'mature' sound to it.

>Both of these productions are really good.

>There's really nothing else I can say, except thanx, good job, both of you, and...

-Aaah bowakama pousse', pousse',...
-Aaah bowakama pousse', pousse',...
;)

you'll be able to get a much better sound if you gave more details on your recording chain/setup...etc.

Rode NT1000 --> Behringer MX20004A Mixer --> ISIS Maxi Studio Sound Card --> Computer --> Cool Edit Pro

Some of you guys were commenting on the drums. They are not real. I made them in fruity loops.

Thanks for the replies

Tukkis
