Hey guys!

I'm quite new to this whole recording-mixing thing. I try trough trial and error for about two years now. I write and record my own stuff in cubase 5 via Line 6 POD x3 and I use superior Drummer and Trilian for bass.
Here is some of my stuff: soundcloud.com/davidschindler

Saosin is my all time favorite band and i absolutely love the recording on their self titled record from 2006.
Especially the drum sound.

I wonder how one can get the drums to sound to full but still tight?
Can you tell me which direction I should try there?

thank you,
Smexx

I suspect a lot of the "fullness" of the drums comes from their drummer just being good at drumming in general - it looks like he plays with power, go check out a live vid from that era. (See also: Dave Grohl.) Then the sound guys who were in charge of producing that album just mixed his drums well.

Since you're using a drum machine, though, what I'd do in that case is find nice samples of individual hits to use and just import those for use when you program your beats. I suspect superior drummer already has pretty good sounding samples, though, so either you need to figure out how to mix it the get the sound you want it to sound, or "humanize" the drums so they sound more natural, and just sound good alone, then work it into the mix.

Or you could find a great drummer and record him. Or become a great drummer and record yourself. :D

Thanks mate!

Well that is exactly where my problem is. I'm not that good at mixing yet to know exactly how to achiev a certain sound.
To my ears it sound as the snare would be low tuned, sounding very wide and full of attack. Bass seems quite flat but good low bass and a fine click at the highs.

How could I achiev a similar sound? Or at least give drums with another basic sound than the saosin kit (the ones I can find in superior drummer) the same attributes soundwise?
