For guitar players or guitar recording enthusiasts...
I have been using a Line6 Flextone II amp for years for all of my guitar recording needs and always thought it sounded very good while allowing me to record at low volume levels. I recently went out and bought a SansAmp GT2 direct box and it's awesome!
Great distortion sound without that muddy digital saturation you get with Line6 stuff. Don't go by the sample settings in the manual though, be patient an fiddle with it for some time. I almost returned it because I wasn't happy with the sound immediately. It's a little noisy (so is a cranked dual rectifier with an sm57 in front of it), but has a very upfront sound, very crisp.
Only complaints/negatives....No reverb or effects. You'll need something else for that.
