Hi,
I am currently looking into getting a 2.1 monitoring system for home and personal use. I have been looking around on the internet and have been recommended the website Thomann by some friends. After a bit of research I have narrowed it down to two bundles that they have on their website. I have looked at reviews and most sat that the Samson R6A and the R8A are good value for money and are decent monitors for their low price and for the entry level user.
The two bundles I am looking at are the Samson R6A or R8A but with the R10S Subwoofer as well. As a bundle they come pretty well priced and come with cables to get it hooked up for £357 (R6A bundle) to £375 (R8A Bundle).
My question is which to go for out of the two. If I was just getting the speakers this this would be an easier choice and I would go for the R8A's however since I am also getting the 10" subwoofer I am not sure what is best. The R8A's have a larger frequency response and go a little lower down to 40Hz (cf. 57Hz) and slightly higher SPL levels due to the larger cabinet and larger driver however the amplifier is the same rating in both (25W HF with 75W LF). I would like a good bass response hence why I am getting a bundle with the subwoofer however I also want a good range. Although the R8A seems better, would I get a better range with the R6A in this setup or should I go with the R8As? Price isn't an issue, I want to go with whatever will sound best as there is only a £18 difference in price.
To give some idea of usage context, I will mainly be using them for EDM but want them to be versatile enough to use as my standard speakers for when just watching films and listening to music. I also do a bit of video editing and would like to use them here when editing audio. I would like to have a good clear punchy bass but still want to have the full range (so a good mid/high response too).
Please let me know your feedback and if you recommend any other alternatives entirely for around this budget then if you could share that would be appreciated. I have added a poll to be able to quickly visualise feedback.
