I am a rapper/singer and I have had the blue yeti for quite some time now. While it's great for mellow, sad songs requiring soft vocals, whenever I want to record stronger, louder, more emotional vocals, the recordings are distorted. Would the samson c03u not have this problem? I saw a video on youtube of someone recording a rap live with it at home and there seemed to be no distortion and great clarity even with his strong vocals. If the c03u would not be better than the yeti in this aspect, could you suggest another microphone (preferably condenser) for around or under $100 that would not be as sensitive to loudness?

Setting proper gain levels and a bit of distance from the diaphragm should do the trick. Its not necessarily the mic you are using.

i have tried increasing distance and decreasing gain but the sound quality is just not that satisfactory. furthermore, in the aforementioned video the distance of the vocalist was very close to the c03u and still managed no distortion with great sound quality, so if the c03u or another mic could offer that, then I would rather buy the new mic.

The yeti has an spl rating of 120 dbs. That is pretty average. I doubt it is the mic. You must be fudging up somewhere when you are recording.
