Samson C01U Problem

Hey PEOPLE,

Hopefully this is the right place to post this question.

I bought the Samson C01U Condenser microphone and I have a problem I can't find an answer to. Whenever I try recording on my desktop computer; there is a loud bass-ish buzz in the background. My voice comes in clearly, but the buzz ruins it.

BUT, whenever I try recording on a laptop it's much clearer. I've tried this on two laptops and two desktops.

I can only assume the problem is that my desktop computer it too loud... but it's really not that loud.

Is this microphone specifically bad or am I doing something wrong? Any help and insight is appreciated.

Thanks,
Perel

If your desktop is a PC you MUST lift the ground of your power cord to get rid of the grounding buzz.

Thanks, it's already showing.
Is there a specific way I should do this? Certain methods I should try?

Never lift a power ground. The benefits (less noise) don't outweigh the risk (death).

With a regular mic you could lift the signal ground, but with a USB mic that's not an option.

Okay, now I'm probably getting into the newbie section, but what is a power ground? Or what does it mean?

Sorry for being slow, you guys are helping a lot though.

A ground lift you can purchase from a store like Home Depot or the equivalent.

It has two prongs to plug into your house wall electric socket and has three (the third one is the round ground) female on the other side that you plug your computers electric power into.
This will in some cases remove the ground buzz caused from PCs -especially if your connected with other audio gear, a mac you will notice is void of a ground on it's power supply cord.

But you must be careful if you do this, not to do things that you would normally do with a computer or your other audio gear including ---taking nice warm baths with your computer, snorkeling with your computer, go on the Disney log in the river ride with your computer, running through the water sprinkler with your computer, share a nice hot cup of coffee with your computer, get some work done during a lightning storm with your computer, ....and my personal favorite going skinny dipping on a moonlit night with my computer.

remember....WATER + ELECTRICITY = YOUR LAST DAY ON THIS PLANET !.!
