Hello,

I just bought a Samson C01 - Large Diaphragm Condenser Microphone. I want to use M-Audio's Fast Track recording interface.

My problem... well basically, the Samson C01 apparently uses phantom power and I wanted to know whether the M-Audio was suited for this, but I have the feeling only M-Audio mics work with M-Audio interfaces. Is this true?

Thank you

Weird. I just went to the shops to get just the same set up. The guys in the shop - very famous shop in London - said they are comaptible. I don't know my stuff, but if they were going to sell me that set up, it must work together...

(Wait for 100% certain advice from these guys though)

Yeah, I'm beginning to think my recording interface (the m-audio fast track USB) is just messed up. Whether I get a signal or not, it doesn't record.

It definitely didn't get a signal with the microphone, but when I plugged my guitar into the interface it didn't record either. The signal was there, but couldn't get anything going on Garage Band.

Any thoughts?

Just wondering how you're getting on with your set up. I should have the same stuff soon so let me know what's happening with yours.

Cheers

I ended up purchasing Phantom Power to power up my microphone. That fixed it my problem well, but I still can't play directly with my guitar (guitar to amp to interface to computer, nor does it work if I do guitar to interface to computer).

Ah, yeah I'm hopefully getting the Fast Track Pro which already has phantom power - you needed that for the mic,eh. As for your guitar...

whats up fellas

I have been using the fast track setup for around 2 years now. The fast track DOES NOT HAVE PHANTOM POWER!!!!! The fast track pro/ultra/ultra 8r do tho. Just not the basic fast track. There should be no problem as far as recording guitars tho??? hmmm. Make sure your mix knob on the front of your fast track is set properly. If your mix nob is turned all the way to the left it will want to record higer levels with you mic. If you turn it all the way to the right it will record higher levels of you guitar.........or whatever you have plugged into that input. If that doesnt work then make sure your settings are right in you software program. If your computer is recognizing the signal its more than likely something with your interface......hopefully.

You're saying that the interface sees a signal but nothing gets recorded. This probably points to either A. something set up wrong in the M-Audio control panel, B. your DAW being set to record from the wrong interface, or C. your DAW being set to record from the wrong input on that interface.
