hey ya'll for the most part when i makes beats i usually got a drum track and make the beats buildin off the drum truck. what i want to start doing is using samples. from anything really now just to get the hang of it. i wanted to know how you all got started using samples and what tips u can give a beginner like me.

Good start... For me the most important element is dem drums...

For me when I first started I looked for samples that had no drums in it ... Made it much easier to loop up...

Start by using loops of 1 or 2 bars just to get da feel of a sample moves through the bars.... Try different octaves of the sample you find that the sample sound much different fast or slower......

And keep sampling through repetition you will get better as well....

If you're just gettig started, find a sample someone's track that you like (Kanye, Alchemist, Dj Premier), and then find the original sample(it's usually in the credits), and then try to recreate that track. That will give you a feel on how to use samples. Both looping, and chopping.

That's a sweet idea... props

what i do is find a loop and throw it in recycle and let the auto chop do its thing then ill load the chopped sample into reason and see what i can do with it. its challenging fun and unpredictable that way. the big thing about sampling is rhythm u have to have that as well as a good groove to sample with either loops or chops. if u cant do that ur gonna have one hell of a time getting samples to follow ur drums

Just make sure once you have the feel of doing different things with samples, youstart to experiment on your own. The last thing we need is some more little Kanye's running around.

but its so much fun :D

I agree, it is, and I still get hyped over hot soul samples, but I believe the sped up soul will soon go the way of the dinosaur. I'm still trying to figure out what kinda deal Kanye got with these publishing houses. I placed a sample joint last year, and the publisher took a chunk outta mime. I'ma stil do samples, but I'm also gonna keep a good amount of played tracks too.
